Hello. These would be best worn OVER padded shorts so that you don't have any layers or fabric between your body and the chamois pad of your padded shorts.
Additionally, we do make a similarly lightweight pair of tights that includes a chamois pad, in case you would prefer to wear just one layer while still getting a chamois pad: Men's Padded Spandex Tights.
