Hello. I am not as familiar with UK sizing but here is a more expanded size chart that includes hip measurements, which may be more illustrative for you (measurements are all in inches):
When it comes to padding, this short is certainly good, of course, but we do have a few styles with more support, if you're interested. In order of medium padding to the most padding, we have: Classic (these ones), Century, Gel Touring, Elite, and Luna.
