Hello. They should hold up fine in freshwater, yes. They are not rated for chlorine exposure (in a pool, for example), but they should do just fine in fresh water. They are very light (no fleece) and the fabric is designed to shed water - no absorb it - so they shouldn't retain water or weigh you down.
