Hello. The Large measures 11 inches in the rise (when laying flat on a table, not stretched) and the waist is designed for 32-34 inches. If you measure across the waist with the shorts just laying flat (not stretched out at all) you get 14-1/2 inches.
The X-Large rise is 11-1/2 inches and is designed for a 35-36 waist. Measuring across the waist is 15-1/2 inches.
