Which way up should I wear it?

It's not clear to me whether the silicone side should be against my skin or clothing.

Hello. The silicone side should go against your clothing. That layer of grippy silicone material is there to help keep it from shifting around in your snug-fitting compression shorts/tights/capris/etc.
