Hello. Great question, but everyone has different tolerance to temperature, of course. The fleece version is very warm, whereas the spandex version is more of just a liner. In 40 degree F weather I would suspect that most riders would opt for the fleece version paired with the Whistler or Hemisphere (the Equator is like the Hemisphere but a little lighter).
