Is there a suggested measuring point diagram to measure one's self to best choose the right size shorts?

Hello. We always recommend measuring your natural waist around your hip pointers, which falls a little below your belly button. This measurement may vary from your normal "jeans size," but we always include a product-specific size chart in each listing that should be true to form following your waist size.
