Hello. We generally size our men's bottoms on even numbers like this. And our size charts should be true to form based on your actual waist measurement (which may vary from your "jeans size," for example). But if you truly are in between sizes at, say, 31, then we usually recommend starting with the smaller size of the two so that you don't have something loose or baggy. The liner short needs to fit snug, like a second skin to keep the chamois in place and provide muscle support and compression.
