Hello. This item thicker than a traditional cycling vest since it is insulated and reversible. So it is a more casual fit and you should be able to layer with it if you follow the size chart on chest measurement. We're all proportioned differently, of course, but you shouldn't need to size up in order to comfortably wear a few layers underneath, no.
