Hello. It is usually best to size men's bottoms by waist size so at a 36 I would recommend Large for you. The length difference between Large and X-Large is not too drastic but the waist circumference will change by a few inches between sizes. So if you're a 36 I would definitely suggest Large.
Our tall sizes are a few inches longer in the inseam, rise (distance from the top of the inseam to the top of the waistband) and torso straps.
